"I was destined to work on Wall Street, creating complex high-frequency trading algorithms and auditing financial firms. I never realized that a passion for design had been inside me all along"

Discovering UX

From Finance to UX

I transitioned from Audit to UX in 2019. While working in Audit, I found the work could become monotonous — there was little room for creativity. We had to strictly follow guidelines, assess people's actions and the systems they used, and ultimately deliver an opinion... or sometimes a fine.

Interestingly, there are similarities between Audit and UX — both involve observing how people interact with systems. However, the mindset is very different. In Audit, we were trained to find problems and stop there. In UX, we not only identify problems but are also challenged to think creatively and design solutions to fix them.

One of the biggest observations I’ve discovered is this: UX Designers embrace problems and welcome them as opportunities to make things better. My creativity was stifled in the Audit and Finance world so I was determined to craft a career I love. And that's exactly what I did!
